Witch Wound: 5 Signs You May Carry One
Updated: Aug 20

What Is the Witch Wound?
The witch wound is a past-life memory connected to persecution, rejection, or betrayal. It may still manifest today as a fear of judgment, difficulty embracing your intuitive abilities, a need to hide your spirituality, or a deep mistrust of others.
This wound may have originated in a lifetime when a person was accused, imprisoned, cast out of their community, or condemned because of their beliefs, spiritual practices, or simply because they were perceived as different.
Despite its name, the person did not necessarily practise witchcraft. Being perceived as too independent, intuitive, unconventional, or threatening could have been enough to provoke an accusation or exclusion.
Here are five signs that a witch wound may still be influencing your present life.
1. You Are Afraid of Your Intuitive Abilities
You may have strong intuitive abilities, such as mediumship or clairvoyance, yet feel an irrational fear of using them. In a past life, these gifts may have attracted judgment, rejection, or persecution. The fear of experiencing those consequences again may now prevent you from exploring your abilities fully.
You may struggle to trust your perceptions, worry that you are making everything up, stop yourself in the middle of channeling, or constantly seek external validation. You may also be afraid to practise in front of others or hesitate to call yourself a medium or intuitive person, even when your abilities are clearly present.
This type of block does not necessarily mean that you lack intuitive abilities. It may instead reflect a fear of what could happen if you allowed yourself to use or reveal them.

2. You Hide Your Authenticity or Spirituality
You may suppress your authentic self and conform to the group’s expectations to avoid being rejected or cast out. In a past life, your uniqueness may have led to your exclusion, leaving an emotional wound that now encourages you to blend in so that you can feel safe.
This fear may also cause you to make yourself smaller. You may avoid being too visible, minimize your knowledge, hide your spirituality, limit your ambitions, or worry about being perceived as too powerful, too intuitive, too independent, or simply “too much” for others.
You may not only be hiding your spiritual gifts. You may also be concealing an entire part of your identity and personal power.
3. You Have Difficulty Trusting Others
Betrayal and abandonment experienced in a past life may have left a deep imprint. You may find it difficult to trust others because you fear being hurt, exposed, betrayed, or abandoned again.
This mistrust can prevent you from forming authentic and meaningful relationships. It may also lead you to practise your spirituality alone because relying on no one feels safer than becoming vulnerable within a group.
For some people, this wound can manifest as a particular mistrust of other women. You may fear being envied, exposed, or betrayed by them. You might struggle to show vulnerability, constantly compare yourself to other women, or worry that something shared in confidence will later be used against you.
This is sometimes referred to as the sister wound. It does not mean that women are naturally rivals. It may reflect an old fear of being betrayed or rejected by the very people you expected to support you.
4. You Mistrust Authority Figures
You may instinctively question authority figures or view institutions and legal systems as unfair or biased. In a past life, you may have been unjustly condemned, silenced, or oppressed by religious, political, or judicial authorities.
This memory may also manifest as a fear of being falsely accused, an intense reaction when your voice is dismissed, or difficulty trusting people who hold power over you.
Of course, questioning authority can be a healthy form of discernment. It becomes a possible sign of a witch wound when the reaction feels unusually intense, difficult to explain, or connected to a persistent fear of punishment and persecution.
5. Stories of Spiritual Persecution Affect You Deeply
Stories about witch trials, spiritual persecution, exclusion, or wrongful condemnation may resonate deeply with you. They may provoke unusually intense emotions, as though the stories were awakening something familiar within you.
You may also feel a powerful desire to defend people who are marginalized, oppressed, or silenced because you feel that you understand their struggle on a profound level.
This resonance does not prove that you carry a witch wound. However, it may be one clue among several, especially when it appears alongside fears of judgment, betrayal, visibility, or spiritual self-expression.
Understanding the Witch Wound and How It Manifests
These five signs aren’t the only ways this memory can manifest. In episode 25 of the Mystical & Pratical podcast, I take a deeper look at the fear of being seen, the difficulty trusting your perceptions, the need to keep learning before daring to practise, and the connection between the witch wound and the sister wound. I also share the past life that helped me understand my own fear of judgment and betrayal.
How Do You Know Whether You Have a Witch Wound?
None of these signs proves on its own that you carry a witch wound. These reactions may also originate in your childhood, upbringing, difficult relationships, cultural or religious environment, or other experiences from your present lifetime.
A past-life memory may become a relevant possibility when the fear seems disproportionate to your present circumstances, persists despite the inner work you have already done, or cannot be fully explained by your current personal history.
It is also possible to recognize several of these signs without all of them originating in the same experience. The witch wound often combines different fears, particularly:
fear of rejection;
fear of judgment;
fear of betrayal;
fear of self-expression;
fear of visibility;
fear of using intuitive or mediumistic abilities.
It is generally the combination and intensity of these fears—not one isolated sign—that may suggest a deeper past-life trauma or soul memory.
What Can You Do If You Recognize These Signs?
Recognizing a possible witch wound does not mean you must immediately conclude that it originated in a past life. It is simply one possible explanation for certain fears, especially when they relate to your spirituality, visibility, authenticity, relationships, or intuitive abilities.
Understanding where these fears may come from can help you begin separating an old protective response from the circumstances of your present life.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Witch Wound
Does the witch wound affect only women?
No. Although the term is generally associated with women—and many people accused during historical witch trials were women—any soul that experienced rejection, betrayal, or punishment because of its differences, spirituality, knowledge, or influence may carry a similar memory.
The person may have been a healer, herbalist, midwife, medium, mystic, spiritual teacher, or simply someone who did not conform to the expectations of their time.
Do you need to have practised witchcraft in a past life?
No. A person did not need to practise witchcraft to be accused or persecuted. They may have worked with plants, supported their community as a healer, displayed intuitive abilities, lived independently, challenged social expectations, or simply been perceived as different.
In some cases, no spiritual practice was involved at all. Jealousy, collective fear, personal conflict, or a false accusation may have been enough to cause the person’s rejection.
Can the witch wound block mediumship?
The witch wound may make it more difficult to use or trust mediumistic abilities. You might receive intuitive information but immediately question it, fear that you are inventing it, or worry about how others would react if you revealed your gifts.
The block may therefore come from a fear of using your abilities rather than an absence of ability.
Is an intense interest in witch trials proof of a past life?
No. Feeling fascinated by witch trials or spiritual persecution does not prove that you experienced them in a past life. Your interest could have psychological, historical, cultural, or personal origins.
However, if these stories trigger intense emotions and resonate alongside other unexplained fears—such as a fear of visibility, betrayal, or spiritual expression—they may offer a meaningful avenue for further exploration.
