Synchronicities: how to decode the signs of the universe in your daily life

Synchronicities are meaningful coincidences, a concept introduced by the psychiatrist Carl Jung. The universe sends us signs from the universe in many forms: repeating numbers, mirror hours, unexpected encounters, animal messengers, words that appear at the perfect moment. These messages from the universe are not random. They speak about our path. In this article, I guide you step by step to recognize the signs, understand them, and use them as a true compass in your life.

I still remember that morning. I had been hesitating for weeks about launching a new course. Was it the right time? Did people really need it? I kept going in circles in my thoughts, without finding a clear answer.

And then, on that same day, three things happened. A client messaged me saying she had been waiting for exactly this kind of teaching. A sentence in a book I opened “by chance” described exactly what I had in mind. And that evening, while going for a walk, I asked my spirit guides if the course was a good idea—and I immediately came across a license plate that read: “YES”.

Coincidence? For me, no. These were three synchronicities, three signs from the universe telling me the same thing in different ways.

If you’ve ever experienced something like this, you know what I’m talking about. And if you’re wondering how to recognize them, decode them, and trust them—you’re in the right place.

Synchronicity or coincidence: what’s the real difference?

The term synchronicity was coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung to describe something very specific: a meaningful coincidence. Two events with no apparent cause-and-effect relationship, yet carrying a deep meaning for the person experiencing them.

This isn’t “magic” in a flashy sense. It’s a subtle language—the one the universe uses to communicate with us when we learn to listen.

The real difference between an ordinary coincidence and a meaningful synchronicity? Your inner feeling. A coincidence leaves you indifferent. A synchronicity moves you. It awakens something inside you, like a light turning on in your chest.

Synchronicities often appear during periods of transition, deep questioning, or spiritual awakening. In my book The Powers of the Earth, I also explore how nature constantly sends us these signals—if we are willing to see and feel them.

10 types of synchronicities: signs of the universe in everyday life

The universe is creative. It doesn’t send messages the same way every time. Here are the ten most common forms of synchronicities I see in my practice and that my students learn to recognize.

10 signs of synchronicities to decode in your daily life

1. Repeating numbers and mirror hours (11:11, 22:22…)

It's one of the most common forms. You check your phone: 11:11... Boom -- Mirror hour! Then you see 111 on a license plate. Then your receipt shows 1.11. These sequences are not just statistical coincidences—Jung considered numbers a “primordial language of the universe.” Each repetition invites you to ask: what were you thinking at that exact moment?

2. The unexpected encounter at the perfect time

You needed specific advice and you meet someone who has exactly the answer. You think about a friend you haven’t spoken to in years and they call you within the hour. These chance encounters that happen with striking precision are one of the most powerful manifestations of synchronicities. The universe conspires—but you have to be available to let the meeting happen.

3. The animal messenger on your path

Animal messengers hold a central place in many spiritual traditions—and in my own practice. A butterfly landing on your hand as you’re making an important decision. An owl watching you from a branch. A deer suddenly crossing your path. Each animal carries symbolism: the butterfly represents transformation, the dragonfly invites lightness, the crow speaks of discernment. When an animal draws your attention in an unusual way, ask yourself: what is it bringing to light?

4. The same song, the same word, everywhere

You think about something and, on the same day, you hear the same word on the radio, in a café conversation, and then read it in a book you open “by chance.” These repeated messenger words are what some traditions call a “cledon”—a word heard by chance that carries exactly the answer you were seeking. The language of the universe often moves through language itself.

5. The book opened “by chance” to the right page

You pick up a book at random, open it to any page, and the paragraph you read answers exactly what you’re going through. This is a form of symbolic synchronicity that is very common among people with a rich inner life. The universe uses your own books as messengers.

6. Thinking of someone who calls within minutes

You think of someone—and your phone rings. It’s them. This form of synchronicity touches on what Carl Jung called the collective unconscious: an invisible connection between two beings that goes beyond ordinary logic. In Akashic readings, this appears as what we call soul threads—deep connections between people that meet again across lifetimes.

7. The breakdown or obstacle that protects you

You get stuck somewhere due to an unexpected event, and later realize it saved you from something difficult. Your car won’t start the morning you would have encountered an accident. Your flight is delayed and you miss a meeting that turns out to be unnecessary. These protective synchronicities are among the hardest to recognize in the moment—but the most meaningful in hindsight.

8. The dream that manifests in reality

You dream of something—a scene, an image, a person—and in the following days, it happens or manifests in your life. These precognitive dreams are a form of synchronicity unfolding over time. The soul sometimes receives messages before the conscious mind. Keeping a dream journal helps you notice these bridges between your inner and outer world.

9. Repeating symbols (feathers, butterflies, numbers…)

A white feather appears on your path three days in a row. You see butterflies everywhere during a period of change. A symbol keeps appearing in your dreams, on posters, in conversations. These recurring symbols are one of the most poetic ways the universe communicates. Their meaning is always personal—it resonates with your story, not with a universal dictionary.

10. The coincidence that answers your inner question

You ask yourself a question in silence, and the answer comes from outside in a completely unexpected way. A sentence heard in the street. A headline that appears on your screen. A stranger saying exactly what you needed to hear. These meaningful coincidences are the very definition of synchronicity according to Carl Jung: no cause-and-effect link, but a deep and undeniable meaning.

How do you know if it’s a real sign or just noise?

This is the question everyone asks me. And it’s a good one—because there’s a difference between being open to signs and searching for them everywhere to the point of losing discernme

The 3 criteria of a real synchronicity

Over years of practice, I’ve identified three reliable markers:

1. Repetition. A sign that appears once may be a coincidence. A sign that appears three times or more, in different forms, deserves your attention. The universe always repeats what matters.

2. Precise timing. A synchronicity appears at the exact moment you’re asking an inner question—even a vague one. This alignment is never random.

3. Bodily feeling. A true synchronicity brings a sense of peace, clarity, sometimes chills. Your body knows before your mind. If you feel contraction or anxiety, it’s more likely a mental projection than a message.

When searching for signs becomes counterproductive

I say this with kindness: looking for signs at every moment of the day can create more confusion than clarity. A real sign from the universe does not need to be chased—it presents itself. It appears when you’re not thinking about it, or exactly when you needed it.

If you find yourself interpreting everything systematically, pause. Come back to stillness. Synchronicities speak more clearly to a calm mind than to one in constant alert.

How to interpret signs from the universe in daily life

Interpreting a synchronicity is not about finding a universal meaning in a symbol dictionary. It’s about listening to what the sign awakens in you, in your context, at this precise moment in your life.

Listen to your body first

Before analyzing, drop into your body. When the sign appeared, what did you feel? Warmth in your chest? A slight shiver down your spine? A sense of expansion? Your nervous system registers the resonance of a sign before your mind interprets it. This first feeling tells you whether the message is for you.

Keep a synchronicity journal

This is the simplest and most powerful tool I know to develop your ability to read messages from the universe. Each evening—or as soon as a synchronicity occurs—write down:

  • What you were experiencing or thinking

  • What the sign was (number, animal, word, event…)

  • What you felt in your body

  • The inner question it seemed to answer

After a few weeks, patterns begin to emerge. Recurring symbols appear. You start to understand your own code—the unique language the universe uses to speak to you.

Ask the universe a clear question

If you’re going through a period of doubt, you can invite a synchronicity. Formulate a simple and precise request in your mind or journal, for example:

“If this decision is aligned with my soul path, show me [this sign] within 48 hours.”

Then let go. The intention must be sincere, and the waiting relaxed. The universe always responds—sometimes as expected, often in far more creative ways.

How to develop your sensitivity to synchronicities

Some people seem to live in a constant flow of synchronicities. Others feel like they miss them. The difference? Rarely “spiritual talent.” Almost always your inner state.

Synchronicities speak louder when you slow down. In a busy life filled with notifications and mental noise, subtle signals get lost. Here’s what truly helps:

  • Slow down. Take a few minutes of silence in the morning. Not necessarily formal meditation—just stillness, tea, a walk without your phone. This is where signs appear.

  • Be present. Synchronicities exist in the now. The more grounded you are, the more you notice subtle meaning.

  • Cultivate wonder. People who experience the most synchronicities are often those who still look at the world with open eyes.

  • Develop your intuition. Channeling and Akashic Records reading are, in my practice, two of the most direct ways to refine this inner listening.

Synchronicities and the Akashic Records: the hidden connection

There’s something I love sharing with my students that often changes how they experience synchronicities: these signs are not random. They are part of a larger soul path, and the Akashic Records can help you understand why certain signs keep repeating in your life.

The Akashic Records are like accessing the deep memory of your soul—the experiences, contracts, and missions that have shaped who you are across time. When I do an Akashic reading, synchronicities often suddenly make much more sense. They are no longer “strange coincidences”—they are soul threads showing up in daily life.

The signs of the universe and the Akashic Records speak the same language: alignment. When you are aligned with your soul path, your values, your life mission, synchronicities multiply. They become almost daily.

In my book The Powers of the Earth, I also explore how the Earth itself sends synchronicities—through plants, seasons, and elements. Nature may be the most patient and eloquent messenger we have.

Synchronicities are not reserved for “highly spiritual” or gifted people. They are available to everyone—if you learn to slow down, listen, and trust what you feel.

The universe is always speaking. Through numbers, encounters, animals, words, books, dreams. It never raises its voice. It simply repeats—with infinite patience—until you hear.

And if you want to go deeper, understand why certain signs keep returning in your life, decode what your soul is trying to teach you, then an Akashic reading may be the next step the universe is inviting you to take.
